Called for problems with Electric furnace. Sr. Tech installed wrong thermostat last Nov and not discovered until April when the A/C was needed. another HVAC came to home and discovered the thermostat was not only wrong, it was not wired to my A/C. First technician put a gas thermostat in and neglected to connect wires for AC. Fought with AHS as I had to pay both service call fees and get lawyer involved to get correct equipment and service fee back. This is the second time I’ve had to argue and get a lawyer involved as well as turn American home Shield into the Better Business Bureau for not acknowledging their contract

They refuse to let you speak with supervisors when you ask. They refuse to let you speak with management when asked. They always tell you management are all busy, in a meeting, or no one is available. They make false promises just to get you off the phone and knowing what they said is not true. They stream you along and say what they think you want to hear.
The vendors they contract with are unreliable, incompetent, or no shows. If they do come, they don’t ring the doorbell or knock. They will stick something on your door or in your mailbox stating they came and then leave. I’ve seen them on my camera do this. Another vendor came and half repaired my air conditioner. It broke again, they came back out, didn’t know what they were doing, said they where going to have to order a part. I waited weeks almost a month for them to come back and finish the job. I called weekly to get the status on the part only to find out the part had come in a long time ago, but they dragged their feet coming back to my house to complete the job. Because they had to come out several times, the vendor attempted to charge me additional fees after I had already paid them the trip fee as well as the Freon and claimed to AHS I didn’t pay him. I had my bank statement showing I had paid them and that they had cashed the check. AHS is really desperate for vendors and is/has settled for anyone they can get. Customers are relying and trusting AHS to provide and screen top notch vendors to come out to our houses for our repair needs. It’s bad enough we have something not working, is the reason we are utilizing them and pay monthly. To have to deal with a home warranty company that lacks integrity, has no follow up, and has no standards in how they screen and contract with vendors is unacceptable. This scream greed, scam, and stealing of monthly fees from customers who have been loyal to them.
Now I have another air conditioner issue, contacted AHS again, was given the run around, placed on hold for almost 2 hours waiting on a manager. I told them I do not want to speak with any supervisor, because the last time my air conditioner broke down, it was a supervisor that said there is nothing they could do about it and I would have to wait several days which turned out to be over a month before my air conditioner was fixed. After waiting for almost 2 hours, they forced me to accept a supervisor to tell me she left a message for an HVAC company to get in touch with me in the AM. By AM, I called the company only to find out they do not service my area. I informed the supervisor, the representative Justin that my 69 year old diabetic father, Maltese, and Siberian Husky are there in the house and I’ve got to have the A/C fixed. The first company they sent a referral to never showed up x 2 appts scheduled. They told me to find my own company that is not on the restrictive list. So know I am now doing AHS’s job and not getting paid for it! I found a company to come out and find out the problem. AHS informed me they I could pay for the repairs upfront and be reimbursed or they could pay for it and provide authorization grant it the company agrees with waiting for payment through AHS. I opted to have AHS pay for the repairs because if I can’t trust them to sent reliable vendors or put a manager on the phone, why am I going to trust them and put myself through another round of the run around attempting to get my money back that I paid upfront. The HVAC company called and got authorization and informed them the repairs are covered and that they will reimburse me for the repairs. I told the HVAC company, AHS will be responsible for paying them and to please call them to confirm before they start the repairs. This has been another nightmare dealing with AHS again! I tried to give AHS another chance and they have gotten worse. I recommended them to several people in my family/neighborhood and I am informing them of what I continuously keep going through with AHS only to find out they have had the same or different problems dealing with AHS and are in the process changing warranty companies.

Had this company for several years. They have gone downhill fast. A real scam now. Don’t answer their phones. Don’t follow through.
Had an A/C part needed. Service rep said it would charge an extra 850 for ductwork needed because the part didn’t fit my unit.
Called a second opinion and they said only needed small amount of work for 250. Their service reps charge extra to the
customers to make up for cheep payment by AHS. Cancel your contract if you have one. They try to discount
everything and do it on the cheep.
danny - May 12, 2017 @ 04:40
total scam .i have been signed up with them for more than 3 years and i hardly called for any repairs and last week my A/C would not work so i called them they sent a very unprofessional technician to my house and claimed that the coil in my A/C is not reparable and would need to replace the entire unit and then i called them up after they gave me the run around talked to a supervisor in their claims dept and she said its not covered because its rusted from my sprinkler, even though since i bought the house 4 years ago the sprinklers do not work and the grass was replaced by tiles and the A/C was working fine all along, total rip off and wast of money and time.

This company is a straight up scam. Microwave quit working, over the next 8 months had numerous service calls before the offer to replace. Finally received the new one, wrong size. I have a 24 inch they sent a 30 inch. Therefore it does not fit in the cabinet opening. They tell me they know it’s a 24 inch but they don’t quarantee the size, only the features. They acknowledge that they sent the wrong size and are willing to send the correct size but only if I pay a $349 restocking fee. So they made the mistake, they know they made the mistake, acknowledge that they made the mistake, but I have to pay an additional $349 to get the right one. SCAM!! Don’t just avoid this company, run from them. They are 100% SCAM.

We had American Home Shield for about a year and a half. I should have cancelled my plan when we had problems with the account unit. They sent a technician who said we needed freon, so we paid extra for the freon. The unit still wouldn’t cool properly. They sent the technicians 2 more times, then an electrician was sent out. Still not cooling properly. They sent a technician one more time, I asked him about my upstairs, this is something I had told American home shield as well as the previous ac repairumen that we had an upper level but no one seemed to listen. Finally the repairman said that the account unit my house had was too small to work properly. So we paid for freon we didn’t even need. That’s not the worst story I have concerning this warranty company. Our dishwasher started retaining water and wouldn’t clean the dishes back in April of 2016. We reported it the repairman was sent who said that the part needed was no longer available and that he would inform American home shield that a replacement dishwasher was needed due to being unable to repair it. The repairman said we would hear from American home shield in approximately 2 weeks. I didn’t hear anything from American home shield nor the repairman for about a month. I called American home shield to be informed that they hadn’t heard from the repairman that they recommended and that they would contact him. To make a very long and disappointing story short, it took several calls, replacement parts being ordered, poor communication, and another inadequate repair company being sent by American home shield sent to my home. This process lasted until August 2016! We were supposed to get a new dishwasher provided due to to availability of parts and the inability to be repaired. American home shield used their poor communication with their repairmen to avoid upholding what is advertised in their contract. And my dishwasher that was supposed to be repaired, still doesn’t work properly. I cancelled my policy. I chose another home warranty company.

If i could give the rating “NO”STARS..
We have had American Home Shield for at least 5 years and for the most part, were satisfied. HOWEVER, this year’s things went DOWN hill. I called to set up my payment plan for 2017 at a rate of 48.35 per month , i set up a monthly rate on a recorded line , pay MONTHLY 42.83 on the 3rd day of the month. On the 2nd of the month they debited a whole quarter oayment from our account. After 3 calls , all lasting at least 45 min I was told sorry, we will not bill you for next 2 months and we will not refund the difference.. Do I trust them not to bill again next month? What they did is fraudulent and when they refused to credit the difference , we cancellwd. I will not do business with business ethics displayed by this company.

…it takes about 1 hr for customer service to answer the phone, then they will never listen the facts and will defend their
wrong doing and poor performed service at my property, hiring very cheap and unskilled technicians to work on the units,
did no work or fixed on my unit and send bill for $75..very shameful act and when i call wont listen and imposing charges
on customers…..Please do not trust this company they are crooked and dishonest….

My a/c went out so they replaced my condensor with a new unit then 7 months later the compressor locks up so I put in a claim to have the same company come out and want 300 for gas on the new replacement compressor which did not last!

I manage a home that the owner purchased a home warranty with American Home Shield and we placed a work order 2 months ago and as of today they still have not repaired or replaced the built in microwave. I have had to call and follow up approx 10 Times and currently on hold for over 1/2 hour, do yourself a favor and avoid this company.
Steven Goodson - December 13, 2016 @ 18:49
American home shield is one of the most useless companies known to man and I would recommend to anyone looking for home insurance don’t use them. My wife and I purchased a home almost a year ago and with it purchase a warranty too so far American Home shield has failed to fix two problem we have staying they don’t cover that. One issue is or ac isn’t efficient enough for the size of our house they refuse to cover it. Now we have a leak in our house and they won’t cover the access to get to the leak. Really what good are they for, just a big waste of money. I would give them negative stars if it was possible.
JC - December 13, 2016 @ 18:48
We are in Texas, but it’s the same AHS and just one word of advice: their contractors have 48 hours to contact you and that doesn’t include week ends. So, if your water heater goes out on Saturday and you turn in a request, the contractor might not even call you till Tuesday and that’s just to set the appt. Then if he comes out and doesn’t have what he needs it may be a few more days before he comes back. As long as you are in no hurry they may be fine, but I’m not going a week without hot water. The plumber they sent our ticket to was not concerned that we’d been without hot water all week end either. In fact, they were pretty non caring.
Robert - December 13, 2016 @ 18:48
I wish I could select no stars.
The quick word is scam. Garage door quit working. So I call and initiate a service request. Upon reading contract for garage door is does not cover door or track. I call again to see if spring is covered. Rep says yes the track is screws and hardware. Ok — service fee expected and rest is covered. Since it is a holiday we wait from Friday morning till Monday for service request during non holiday hours. Today we find out we waited three days for service fee and paying for the complete spring system. It is not covered per another rep!! I was on the phone for four transfers an hour and half to cancel our contract and request my fee of $125 be refunded.
Contract cancelled but all other discussion is contingent on them locating the call of the actual conversation concerning the coverage. Really. You think people wait three days with their car stuck in a garage to pay extra? It would have been cheaper with the contractor to come out day one and fix.

Our ac has been out 5 weeks of the 60 days. After 3 weeks with out air conditioning in June they replaced the compressor. it worked until first of August… after a week they came back (of course they informed me we would need to pay additional service fee and if freon was required we would need to pay the 675 again (we paid this for the June repair)
When i tried to use the online system they wrote up new request and i would call and stay on hold 45 minutes to an hour;
each time being told they would contact me . NEVER HAPPENED. That repair lasted 6 days!!! Called again repairman came out said needed a new board….ordered came back 3 days later – couldn’t fix it said the refurbished board they ordered was bad. Came back to day – Oscar worked on it 3 hours said board is in unit is working… leaves
i go back to work – my husband calls 20 minutes later says the compressor was not running . Called the repairman came back worked on it 1-2 hours says he can not fix it.\!!!!well it is still 90 degrees at 11:30 in the house, I call American Home Shield stay on hold an hour to be told they have not received a report from the service provider and could not tell me anything…. We have contracted with them over 15 years will not renew… do not use them terrible customer service does not stand behind their contract,

I have read many reviews about AHS, and everyone has their own experience with them. Let me tell you about mine!
My A/C stopped cooling so I called AHS. Waited only a few minutes and the customer representative was already on the phone with me. She was very professional and took a few minutes to get me familiar with the process because I never used home warranties before. She dispatched the vendor (A-OK services) who came over, found out the problem (condenser fan and capacitor) and replaced it in 20 minutes. Yaay! A/C was cooling again!
Unfortunately, a few days later, my A/C stopped working again. I called AHSagain and they dispatched the vendor the next day. This time it was James from Fresh Air Systems. He came over and fixed the problem in 15 minutes. The previous vendor’s wiring wasn’t done completely right the first time (it happens, we are all humans), so James corrected it. It’s been a week now and my A/C is blowing very cold.
Overall, I am very pleased with AHS! I understand that some people had different experiences, but mine was great! My contract expires in a month or two. Needless to say, I will extend it!
Thank you AHS! Great job!

First things first…..I tried to schedule my service by speaking directly with a customer service agent…..almost impossible to do. I waited between 25-30 minutes while listening to some squelching music(I think their outgoing music was messed up)before hanging up and trying to call again. Called back and finally reached an agent after another 20 minute wait. Just for perspective I was also on my computer at the same time attempting to utilize their “chat service”. I was 18th in the queue. I realize I can schedule the service call via their voice prompt system or online, but I specifically wanted to speak to someone about my particular issue feeling the recent history of service calls was pertinent to my situation.
Finally reaching an agent I described my issue. My 17-18 year old water heater was delivering rusty water. Twice already AHS has sent out a service repairman to “flush” my water heater. I had already done so twice myself prior to this. FYI, the average life of a water heater is 8-12 years. Once again after the last flush I am again experiencing rusty water. This has been over the course of the last 120 days or so. I’ve done enough research and talked with enough people to know that the water heater liner is beginning to fail, thus the rusty water. So, proactively, for my third service call, I spoke directly with the service repairman before he came to my house so I could to describe the details of my specific situation. He too agreed with me that the more than likely cause of the rusty water was the liner. He volunteered to call AHS prior to coming to see what they would “cover”. He mentioned there would likely be a few things that I would need to cover as building codes have changed since my water heater had been installed. I understood that. He said he would call me back in 20-30 minutes. After about 45 minutes he called me back. He was apologetic, but said AHS had him on hold for the last 40 minutes.
AHS told him the only thing they would consider covering would be another flush. It “appears” that they won’t pay for a failed water heater until it begins to leak. Tell me what sense that makes??? Let’s wait until it completely fails, and we’re now looking at water damage too!!!
Bottom line……both the service repairman and I concluded that it would do absolutely no good to flush the water heater another time so we collectly passed on another service call. It would be a waste of time and money. No kidding!!!!
Sooo frustrating. Clearly when it comes time for me to re-up on my warranty, it will not be with AHS. And, I urge any of you who are considering AHS as a home warranty company to pass and look elsewhere too.
